25 year old Samara Telesford is currently a Dental Hygiene student at the University of Portsmouth and is a General Dental Council (GDC) registered dental nurse. She is a highly motivated, passionate and ambitious young lady with a persistent goal to be the best version of herself. She also has a strong sense of purpose in breaking down barriers within the education and professional occupations where young black women in the UK are especially under-represented in leadership roles. She states that “It is important that our 21st century young black women are given every opportunity to be empowered and celebrated”. Samara firmly believes that beauty pageants can be considered as a vehicle and a platform for young women to develop their confidence, be entrepreneurial, showcase their intelligence, foster great leadership skills, change and influence their lives as well as make a difference to those in her community. Samara’s beauty pageant experience began at the age of 16 and feels that despite some of the bias’s, they are still relevant in this day and age. Her participation in various pageants has allowed her to cultivate her own path in life, grow her self-confidence, and pursue new opportunities. On Saturday 29th October 2022, Samara Represented Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and won her ultimate title of Miss Caribbean UK 2022 as well as other categories: “Best Evening Gown”, “The People’s Choice Vote” and joint in “Miss Personality”. Miss Caribbean UK, set up by Founder’s Clayton and Jacqui Brown, is an event that promotes all the different Caribbean countries under one umbrella with an objective to; “Positively Promote the Caribbean”. As the new reigning queen, Samara would like to use this platform to push her “A Black Girls Tale” campaign which advocates a safe place for black women to share, express and overcome their feelings and past experiences they may have faced within the educational system or place of work. Her platform will also be used to raise awareness to the various charitable causes and organisations she actively supports. Samara is now an Ambassador for the KD Crosdale charity in the UK and is also a member of the SVG Women’s Association. But most of all, Samara would like to show the World that this Vincy is likkle but TALLAWAH!
